Job-hopping has become the most common thing for employees,
particularly for employees in the age group 22-35. Our survey
reveals that more than 85% of the people in this age group feel
sticking with a particular organization for more than 3 years is
“uncool”. Organizations are no longer sure how long an employee
will stay with them.
There is no particular reason why people hop jobs. Most people
hop jobs just for the sake of it. However, reasons such as
bigger organization, better pay, greater challenges make people
ho jobs frequently. Keep the following points in mind if you are
a frequent/incorrigible job hopper.
o
Do not leave an organization just for the sake of
it. Think twice before taking a decision. You will have
difficulties facing other interviews. Also, frequent job-hopping
reflects badly on your later career, particularly when you move
to senior level positions where organizations want candidates
with commitment. You may be brilliant but a consistent track
record of building organizations and contributing are more
important.
o
Keep in mind that a few years of experience in one
organization surely matters. If you hop jobs without
contributing effectively to a single organization, it becomes
difficult to gain the confidence of other organizations. Gain
decent experience in a particular organization, contribute
effectively and then hop.
o
Before hopping jobs, make sure you reach a
particular position in an organization. This is important
because you will have the skills and the experience to rise
faster in other organizations.
o
When you are hopping jobs frequently, remember
that the new organization will not believe you completely. They
may take you because you are brilliant but will not hesitate to
fire you at the slightest instance of under performance. There
is no sympathy because they might get people as good as you, if
not better.
Finally, hopping jobs is a matter of personal choice. Think
carefully before hopping jobs and make sure it will not reflect
badly on your long-term career.
